All About Old Time Patterns
My love of Historical Clothing began the very first time I saw Gone with the Wind. Not accurate... yes, I know... but pretty darn good for the 1940s, long before the internet, when doing historical research was laborious and time consuming! I guess sewing was just my thing, since I learned to sew when my age was still in the single digits, and I always tried designing and making my own clothes.
It wasn't until 2004 when I was introduced to the reenacting community. OMG! People dress up in costume and act like they are in a different time period! This was definitely something I wanted to take part in! Of course, the internet was in full swing by this time, so I read... and read... and read everything I could get my hands on about making historical costumes. When in 2006, I tried to find a pattern for a Regency Era frock coat for my husband, and was having trouble finding one, I decided it might be helpful, to others as well as myself, if I started selling historical sewing patterns, but only those that were the most accurate! And in December 2006, Old Time Patterns was born!
The learning continues. I have an extensive library of historical costuming books. And I have studied photos of extant garments on museum websites until my eyes glazed over. The learning never stopped, and our pattern store continued to grow, eventually offering reproduction fabrics and notions, in addition to the patterns.
Then I found myself wanting to make videos, to help others with their historical clothing. So in October 2018, our YouTube channel was born!
If there is anything I can do to assist you with your own historical clothing, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks so much for visiting!
