Bennett Place was the location of the surrender of the Confederate forces, under the command of General Joseph E. Johnston, to the Union Army under the command of William T. Sherman on April 18, 1865 -- 9 days after the surrender of Robert E. Lee in Appomattox. Bennett Place has a very small museum on the property, and I was very surprised and very excited to find this Tailcoat in that museum. I had never before seen a mid 19th Century Tailcoat up close, and I stood there studying that garment for what seemed like forever! LOL. Hopefully these pictures will show enough detail of the construction of the garment. I only wish I could have seen the back of it! LOL. Thanks so much for visiting!
